Did you know that Hennigar Farms has the world’s first Portable Peach Orchard!
Traditionally, peach trees are hard to grow in Nova Scotia. Over-wintering temperatures along with fluctuating spring weather cause severe injury. Overcoming this problem and producing a good crop every year was the goal of this project initiated in 1983.
We grow our peach trees in pallet containers (similar to a bulk bin but half the size) that could be picked up with a fork-lift on a tractor and moved into a tunnel house for the winter. The trees blossom inside the greenhouse, are self-pollinating and are brought outside once the dangers of frost are over. These peaches ripen early, are picked daily and are the sweetest and juiciest found in the valley!
